Athletes have to prove their skills in six disciplines at the STIHL® TIMBERSPORTS® SERIES competitions. They include Underhand Chop, STIHL Stock Saw, Standing Block Chop, Single Buck, Springboard and Hot Saw.
Strength, endurance and the perfect handling of the axe and chainsaw decide between victory and defeat. We introduce you to the discipline Single Buck in this article.
Athletes cut a cookie (disc of wood) from a horizontally secured block (diameter of 46 cm) with a cross-cut handsaw measuring approximately two metres. Rhythm and technique are the decisive factors for achieving a good time of under 15 seconds. Competitors are permitted to spray the saw with an oil mixture to help prevent it from sticking in the wood. In addition, the competitor is allowed to have a helper drive a wedge between the disc and the block. The best times in this discipline are around ten seconds.
Here you will find an overview of all of the disciplines of the STIHL® TIMBERSPORTS® SERIES.
