This discipline demonstrates the technique for cutting up a felled tree. The athletes stand on a horizontally secured block and have to cut through a 32-cm thick trunk with their axe. Athletes must chop the block from both sides. Cutting through from only one side results in disqualification in this discipline. The best times in the underhand chop are under 20 seconds.
