STIHL® TIMBERSPORTS® SERIES – Discipline Springboard

Athletes have to prove their skills in six disciplines at the STIHL® TIMBERSPORTS® SERIES competitions. They include Underhand Chop, STIHL Stock Saw, Standing Block Chop, Single Buck, Springboard and Hot Saw.

Strength, endurance and the perfect handling of the axe and chainsaw decide between victory and defeat. We introduce you to the discipline Springboard in this article.

Stihl Timbersports World Championship 2013

In this discipline, two springboards are slotted one below the other into a vertically secured tree trunk. The aim is to cut through a block of wood (diameter of 27 cm) on top of the trunk at a height of about 2.8 metres. The springboard is also described as the “supreme discipline” because it requires balance and skill, in addition to precise technique and strength. Top athletes need less than 40 seconds.
