STIHL® TIMBERSPORTS® SERIES – Discipline Hot Saw

Athletes have to prove their skills in six disciplines at the STIHL® TIMBERSPORTS® SERIES competitions. They include Underhand Chop, STIHL Stock Saw, Standing Block Chop, Single Buck, Springboard and Hot Saw.

Strength, endurance and the perfect handling of the axe and chainsaw decide between victory and defeat. We introduce you to the discipline Hot Saw in this article.

Hot saws are extremely powerful chainsaws. The aim is to cut three cookies (discs of wood) of a specified thickness from a horizontally secured trunk (diameter of 46 cm) with a hot saw. The challenge of this discipline is to control the concentrated power of the chainsaw, which has up to 80 hp. With a chain speed of 240 km/h and a weight of approximately 27 kg, these machines demand maximum performance from the athletes.The best times in this discipline are under seven seconds.
