Stop! In the name of safety
A chain brake is essential. This is why all our saws are equipped with the STIHL QuickStop chain brake. Actively pressing the hand guard forward activates the chain brake manually and stops the saw chain. Strong kickback causes the chain saw to engage the chain brake automatically, no matter what position it is in – you don’t even have to touch the front hand guard with your left hand. Within just a fraction of a second, the saw chain comes to a complete stop.
The unique STIHL QuickStop Super chain brake system provides manual activation of the chain brake. This system makes it possible to trigger the chain brake directly by fully releasing the rear handle. The chain saw not only stops in less than one second whenever there is sufficiently strong kickback or the front hand guard is activated, but also whenever the user lets go of rear handle.
The major advantage of this? QuickStop Super works in every position, without additional levers or handgrips.
When a job requires the user to move frequently with the chain saw running, such as for removing branches, this feature can be a welcomed addition.
No additional controls are necessary. The throttle trigger lockout is also the lever for activating the coasting brake.
The chain brake is also automatically engaged during transport of the chain saw, so no additional manual handling is required.
Here’s how it works!
Release the brake: Press the throttle trigger lockout. The brake band releases the clutch drum and the saw chain can rotate.
Braking: Release the rear handle. The brake band tightens around the clutch drum and the saw chain comes to a stop in less than a second.
STIHL chain saws with QuickStop Super are indicated by the letter “Q” in the model name.
