It’s time to get your chain saw out of your shed and get to work cutting wood for your fireplace as well as many other jobs that need doing. But before you get going, you should check to see whether your chain saw is working properly. Here are a few tips for you.

Follow these five simple steps for safe and optimum results with your chain saw:

  1. Check your cutting attachment for damage
  2. Clean the air filter and the cylinder fins
  3. Tension the chain
  4. Fill the tank: first chain oil, then fuel
  5. Check the chain brake and all other safety features (stop button, chain catcher, throttle trigger lockout)

If you observe these five pointers, you can be sure that you are well prepared to get to work.

  1. Rotate the guide bar and remove burrs from the guide bar (if necessary) after every time you change or sharpen the chain.
